Celebrating Butchershop legends
In 2017, we created the Paul(ine) Bunyan and The Blue Ox awards, for the two Butchershoppers who go beyond the call of duty, demonstrating the values and work ethic that define our culture.
Why Paul(ine) Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, you ask? For those unfamiliar with the folklore, the CliffsNotes version is a tale of two companions who traveled across the United States, conquering challenges, making their mark and helping others along the way. Paul Bunyan was helpful, dedicated and tenacious, with a larger-than-life personality that endeared him to everyone he crossed paths with.
All of these characteristics are embodied by the recipient of the Paul(ine) Bunyan award, Senior Project Manager, Mahwesh Hansraj. Forever the optimist, Mahwesh is a passionate contributor to the Butchershop culture. She finds solutions to hard problems, is always there to congratulate a team member, is a trusted partner to our clients and teammates, and most of all, she empowers her team members to do great work. We couldn’t think of a more worthy Pauline Bunyan.
If the story of Paul Bunyan and the Blue Ox teaches us anything, it’s that amazing things happen when people work together. This is a core Butchershop belief and the central tenet of The Blue Ox award.
“Mahwesh is a great embodiment of the dedication, cooperation and hard work that is the spirit of this award. She is tenacious and reliable, always there to field a hard conversation, congratulate a team member, and loves to make great work that wins.”
The inaugural Blue Ox was awarded to Devin Cornwall, as the Butchershopper who improves the team, projects, clients, and quality of life every day.
Not only an extremely talented designer, Devin is always there to lend a helping hand, setting the bar for what true collaboration looks like with the whole crew. When we think of someone at Butchershop that embodies all the qualities of the Blue Ox, Devin is the person we think of.
In recognition of their efforts — and in true Butchershop style — we put a spin on the humble trophy, awarding both Mahwesh and Devin a custom Best Made Co. axe, representative of them being a cut above. While they might not be clearing forests with one fell swing any time soon, it’s good to be prepared. Just in case.
