Known for their success in enterprise investments, Lightspeed’s been a major player in Silicon Valley’s VC scene since its founding. With some strategic B2C acquisitions and significant IPOs, the firm’s portfolio of consumer companies ballooned—many of them female-led companies, like Goop and Honest Company. Their brand needed to match the firm’s deep history and expertise, and level up to the influence their investments have on contemporary culture. A welcome challenge in a crowded VC space.
We focussed our strategy on the art, science, hard work, and foresight that has gone into building a multibillion-dollar fund. We called it Venture Craft, and communicated it through a strong tagline: “Tomorrow, Built Today.” Lightspeed’s immense influence in helping create companies and brands that impact society meant they were today’s culture-makers.
We developed an editorial style that highlighted the firm’s growing consumer portfolio, and created a bold, iconic logo and an elegant, magazine-style serif wordmark. We designed a slick website and a simple, elegant color palette to go with it. To showcase their nuanced personalities, we shot black-and-white portraits of each partner.
Lightspeed has since raised a record $1.8 billion in new capital, celebrated several IPOs, and expanded its female-led consumer portfolio with companies like Sophia Amoruso’s Girlboss and Lady Gaga’s new beauty business. The brand work won several awards, and has had a major impact on their global partners in India and China.
